A 35-year-old television personality walked into our dental clinic and asked for correction of his smile. He said he was embarrassed to smile showing his uneven teeth. Also, the unevenness made it difficult to clean and caused a lot of stains.

When we explained to him that wearing braces was the best way to correct them, he was concerned about the metallic smile and wondered if they could be worn at his age. We explained about clear aligners, and he was surprised that something like this existed. Earlier ceramic braces and lingual braces were the only other options available.

A visit to the orthodontist may be required in children as young as 6 to assess their teeth and jaws. Orthodontic treatment though better if done earlier, can be done at any age if the person is healthy, and the teeth and supporting bone are in good condition. A number of people miss orthodontic treatment due to various reasons and lack of awareness. Adult orthodontics is very common these days. Many adults are conscious about wearing braces especially working people. Ceramic braces are less conspicuous. But it might be a hindrance for people in media like actors and models. Clear aligners are the clear alternate to braces for such people.

Clear aligners can straighten crooked and forwardly placed teeth just like traditional braces without discomfort and without anyone knowing that you are undergoing dental treatment. They are almost invisible and the best part is that they are removable by the patients themselves. They are customized and manufactured for each patient according to their needs and treatment plan. Furthermore, they can be worn by patients of all ages and teens especially are happier with aligners. Regular monthly visits may not be required always. This is the preferred treatment for people who travel frequently and those into sports. What’s more, it’s easier to maintain clean oral hygiene since its removable. Contrary to popular belief, they can be used to correct mild to severe orthodontic problems. There are many successfully treated happy people who had their teeth corrected with clear aligners.

A pretty smile can do wonders to a person’s confidence.
